What are some things I should look for when buying kitchen cabinets?
When you’re designing your kitchen, there are some important questions to ask yourself:
- Where are you planning to put your kitchen sink?
- Where do you want to put your kitchen appliances?
- Do you have any large appliances in your home, such as a refrigerator or stove? And what style are they?
- Where do you plan to place your corner cabinets and what design would you like them to have?
The answers to these questions provide you with a good foundation for designing your kitchen.
What is the process in getting my kitchen cabinets?
The first step towards a beautiful kitchen is getting to know you and your needs.
We’ll need to measure the space so we can make sure your new cabinets will fit.
Once we are complete with the design process of your cabinets, our team of Amish cabinet makers will expertly build them, giving life to the kitchen of your dreams. When they are finished, our installers will contact you to arrange a time to come and install your new kitchen!
What are standard features in your kitchen cabinets?
We encourage three standard features in every kitchen we design and build:
- Soft-close drawer slides and hinges
- Double waste can pull-out cabinets
- Utensil dividers in 2-3 drawers.
What are some popular kitchen styles in the Merion Station area?
Styles come and go, but here are three that we receive many requests for:
- Contemporary-modern cabinets. These are a simple cabinet style and sometimes referred to as the “Shaker style”
- Decorative-ornate. These have additional woodworking and trim pieces, giving the cabinets and kitchen some extra flair.
- Farmhouse style. Also called the “reclaimed look,” these bring a rustic and sometimes stressed style into your kitchen.
No matter the style you want in your cabinets, our skilled team of cabinet makers is ready to design and create them!
What are popular kitchen cabinet colors?
In current cabinet styles, we see many requests for:
- Whites
- Grays
- Blues
- Medium-dark brown stains
What are some current trends with Merion Station kitchen cabinets?
Currently, three trends we see are the following:
- Glazed finishes on cabinets
- White-washed or distressed finishes
- Farmhouse and rustic style cabinets
Can I choose the style, color, and wood for my custom kitchen cabinets?
Absolutely! We want your kitchen to be yours, so we allow you to have full customization over the following cabinet parts:
- Interior wood choice
- Exterior wood choice
- Door style
- Cabinet colors
Are kitchen cabinets standard depths or always custom?
There are limitless options when it comes to customizing your kitchen cabinets! The standard depth for a set of drawers is 24,” but you can go as deep or shallow depending on how much storage space that particular setup will provide.
Does a new kitchen add to my home's value?
Yes!
Having a custom kitchen adds features, quality, and style that makes your home something worth spending money on when you go to sale.
Many home buyers are looking for kitchens that are not “stock” or “builders-grade” quality.
Can I repaint my kitchen cabinets?
It is possible, but it is often a lot of work. It also rarely brings back the original sheen or finish of the cabinets.
What goes into your hand-crafted cabinets?
We put a lot of work and take pride in our hand-crafted Amish-built cabinets, including the following craftsmanship features:
- 3/4″ plywood for the main box frame (industry standard is 1/2″ plywood).
- No staples are used that can come out; only glues and screws.
- We add supports behind each drawer.
- We design and build for long-term stability and quality.
Our goal is that if you want a new kitchen 10-15 years from now, that you can sell your kitchen for a good resale value.

Merion Station, also known simply as Merion, is an unincorporated community bordering Philadelphia to the west. It makes up part of Philadelphia’s Main Line, along with other communities, and is part of the municipality of Lower Merion Township, Montgomery County.
The community is far from poverty-stricken! It’s known for its gorgeous, grand mansions and the affluence of its residents.
One notable point of interest in Merion is the Merion Friends Meeting House, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is considered a National Historic Landmark. The Meetinghouse was built in 1695 by Welsh settlers.
Another notable institution for which Merion is renowned is the Barnes Foundation, which is an important collection of impressionistic and post-impressionistic paintings amassed by drug entrepreneur Albert C. Barnes. Since the 1920s these paintings have been housed in a granite mansion on Latches Lane, Merion.
Merion is named after Merionshire, Wales, the native home of many of the original settlers. In order to distinguish Merion from other places in PA with the same name, the Postal Service refers to it as “Merion Station.” But the historical name of the place is simply Merion.
